Background

A retail operator required the fit-out of a new unit within Westfield White City. Delivery within a major shopping centre involved more than coordinating construction work: landlord approvals, safety and logistics requirements, statutory compliance and subcontractor information all needed to be managed against the client's programme.

GIR Group was appointed to coordinate the design, procurement and approval process, providing a single point of contact between the client, centre management and supply chain.

The Challenge

The programme included a fixed installation date for the shopfront branding, but the approval route with the centre landlord had not yet been finalised.

At the same time, mechanical and electrical works, fire-safety items and shopfront elements needed to be procured and coordinated in accordance with the centre's requirements. Delay to any approval or contractor input risked disrupting the wider fit-out programme.

What We Did

GIR Group managed the principal approval and procurement workstreams.

  • Agreed a proportionate approval route with the centre landlord, allowing the graphics installation to proceed.
  • Coordinated the health, safety and logistics information required by centre management.
  • Managed procurement for the mechanical, electrical, fire-safety and shopfront packages.
  • Aligned subcontractor information, actions and programme requirements across the project team.

The Outcome

The landlord approval route was resolved and the shopfront branding was installed on schedule without delaying the planned works.

The wider fit-out progressed through a coordinated process, enabling the store to open for trading. GIR Group provided the client with a clear route through the landlord, procurement and delivery requirements of a demanding retail environment.
